Las Vegas – Hardcore enthusiasts prepare for an injection of raw energy as the Santa Cruz trio Drain storms the House of Blues on April 9. Twelve years into a career marked by constant motion, the band maintains its reputation for high-octane shows infused with scrappy vigor and unexpected positivity.[1][2] Their latest album fuels this tour, promising a night of unbridled intensity at the Mandalay Bay venue.

Roots in Santa Cruz Grit

The band emerged from California’s Santa Cruz scene around 2014, quickly carving a niche in hardcore with their crossover thrash influences. Drain built a dedicated following through relentless touring and releases that captured their live ferocity. Early efforts evolved into polished yet aggressive full-lengths on Epitaph Records.[3]

By 2020, California Cursed showcased their growth, blending speed with hooks. The 2023 follow-up, Living Proof, solidified their status with tighter songcraft and broader appeal. Fans praise the group’s ability to channel aggression into something almost uplifting.[4]

…Is Your Friend Captures Peak Form

Released in November 2025, …Is Your Friend marks Drain’s most direct statement yet. Recorded live to preserve their chaotic essence, the album strips back production for pure adrenaline. Tracks pulse with the same improbably joyful spirit that defines their stage presence.[5][6]

Critics highlight its unfiltered approach, a step beyond predecessors. The record embodies the band’s motto, inviting listeners into their high-speed world. Expect cuts from this LP to dominate the setlist, amplifying the venue’s intimate vibe.

Stacked Tour Brings Regional Heavyweights

Drain headlines the …Is Your Friend Tour, joined by No Pressure, Haywire, and Secret World. These openers complement the headliners’ style, delivering punk-edged hardcore throughout the bill. The package ensures non-stop momentum from doors at 6 p.m.[2]

Recent stops included Tempe and Denver, building hype ahead of Vegas. The full routing spans key U.S. cities:

• April 3: Detroit, MI – Russell Industrial Center
• April 4: Chicago, IL – Concord Music Hall
• April 6: Denver, CO – Summit Music Hall

Live Reputation Sets High Bar

Drain thrives in sweat-soaked rooms, where their scrappy ethos shines brightest. Past Vegas appearances, like at When We Were Young festival last fall, demonstrated their command of crowds. The House of Blues setup favors their tight, explosive delivery.[8]

Attendees anticipate circle pits and communal release, hallmarks of Drain’s draws. The trio’s optimism cuts through genre norms, turning mosh calls into shared triumphs. This stop arrives at a tour peak, primed for memorable outbursts.

Hardcore’s Joyful Warriors Charge On

Drain exemplifies hardcore’s enduring pull: fierce yet approachable. Their path from local stages to national tours underscores persistence in a demanding scene. The House of Blues gig offers locals a prime chance to witness evolution firsthand.

As Drain keeps the fire burning, this performance stands as essential viewing for heavy music fans. What draws you to their sound? Share in the comments.
