Las Vegas – High school athletes across the Las Vegas Valley delivered dominant displays on Thursday in baseball, softball, and boys volleyball. Lopsided scores defined much of the action, with pitchers throwing no-hitters and hitters crushing extra-base hits. Canyon Springs routed Western 11-2, while Centennial edged Las Vegas 6-1 behind a late offensive surge. Several players earned top billing for their contributions. Tech senior Briggs Barlow pitched a three-inning no-hitter in a 15-0 win over SLAM! Nevada. Centennial’s Dominic Tiberi struck out 10 in a complete-game four-hitter victory. Canyon Springs sophomore Cruz Monroy doubled twice, drove in three runs, and earned the win on the mound against Western. Silverado’s Giovanni Guariglia slugged his ninth home run of the season, and Mojave’s Brehnden Butac collected two triples and two doubles despite the loss.[1]

Softball Teams Pile On the Runs

Softball mirrored baseball’s trend toward high-scoring affairs, with multiple games invoking the run rule after three innings. Cadence overwhelmed Del Sol 24-3, and Cimarron-Memorial crushed Eldorado 24-4. Faith Lutheran held firm for a 5-1 win over Desert Oasis, while Sierra Vista outlasted Spring Valley 11-9 in a closer contest.[1]

Individual brilliance shone through in several matchups. Bonanza sophomore Ayla Murphy tossed a six-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and added a triple at the plate in an 11-1 win. Legacy senior Madison Castellon went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and five RBIs. Cimarron-Memorial’s Taylor Ramos collected four hits, including two triples, and five RBIs. Las Vegas freshman Sophia Ortiz notched four hits with three doubles, while Durango freshman Jailynn Ford homered and tripled with four RBIs.[1]

Boys Volleyball Features Tight Battles

Boys volleyball offered the day’s most competitive sets, with all four matches going at least four frames. Cadence outlasted Bonanza 3-2 in a thriller that went to 15-13 in the fifth. Liberty swept Clark 3-0, and Mojave dispatched Western 3-0. Virgin Valley prevailed over Doral Academy 3-1 after dropping the opener 17-25.[1]

Cadence junior Clive Sanidad dished out 32 assists, six digs, and a block in the win over Bonanza. Virgin Valley senior Alonzo Roque tallied 15 assists and 12 digs against Doral Academy. These efforts highlighted the defensive grit required in volleyball’s extended rallies.[1]
