Las Vegas – Runners from across the country will soon commandeer the city’s famed Strip and downtown arteries for the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series events.[1]

Saturday’s 5K Energizes Downtown Streets

The festivities kick off Saturday with a 5K race starting at 5 p.m. from 4th Street and Bridger Avenue in downtown Las Vegas. Participants will finish under the lights of Fremont Street, drawing crowds to the vibrant area.[2][1]

Road closures begin as early as 4 p.m. to accommodate the event. Las Vegas Boulevard southbound will shut between Ogden and Bridger avenues from 4 to 6:45 p.m., while Bridger Avenue closes fully between 4th Street and Las Vegas Boulevard during that window. Both directions of Las Vegas Boulevard between Ogden and Bridger will remain closed until 8 p.m. Additional blocks on northbound Las Vegas Boulevard from Hoover to Bridger and Garces Avenue between Las Vegas Boulevard and 11th Street will affect traffic from 4 to 7 p.m.[1]

  • Carson Avenue closes both directions between Las Vegas Boulevard and Maryland Parkway from 4 to 7:15 p.m.
  • Maryland Parkway shuts both ways between Carson and Fremont streets during the same period.
  • Fremont Street closes both directions between Maryland Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Sunday Half-Marathon Dominates the Strip

Sunday brings the main event: a half-marathon and 10K starting at 4:30 p.m. from Las Vegas Boulevard at New York-New York, with the finish line just south of the Bellagio. The course stretches north along the Strip to Carson Avenue downtown, closing the boulevard extensively.[2][1]

Closures ramp up from 2 p.m. Southbound Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana Avenue and Sunset Road will close until 8:30 p.m., matched by northbound lanes from Sunset to Russell roads. Northbound traffic faces longer halts further up, with closures to Park Avenue until 8:30 p.m., then to Flamingo Road until 11 p.m. Both directions between Flamingo and Spring Mountain shut from 2 to 11 p.m., and between Spring Mountain and Sahara until 10:30 p.m. Downtown extensions continue northbound from Sahara to St. Louis Avenue/Main Street until 10 p.m., and to Bridger Avenue until 9:45 p.m.[1]

Freeway Ramps and Downtown Extensions Impacted

Interstate 15 ramps feeding the Strip and downtown will also close Sunday afternoon. Northbound and southbound off-ramps to eastbound Tropicana shut from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Off-ramps to eastbound Spring Mountain and the southbound flyover to eastbound Sahara close from 2 to 10:30 p.m. Further restrictions hit the northbound off-ramp to Harmon, northbound and southbound flyovers to Spring Mountain, and ramps to Flamingo, all until 11 p.m.[1]

Additional downtown measures include Bridger Avenue closing both directions between Las Vegas Boulevard and 8th Street from 2 to 9:45 p.m. Southbound Las Vegas Boulevard from Bridger to Sahara remains closed until 10:15 p.m. Roads reopen on a rolling basis, potentially lasting until late evening or early Monday morning.

Public Transit Faces Detours

Regional Transportation Commission bus routes will see major changes. Saturday impacts routes 109, 113, 207, 208, 215, 401, Boulder Highway Express, Centennial Express, and the Deuce on the Strip. Sunday adds routes 104, 108, 119, 201, 202, 203, 206, plus Boulder Highway Express, Centennial Express, and Sahara Express.[1]

The Deuce will skip Las Vegas Boulevard between downtown and the South Strip Transit Terminal both days, rerouting to parallel streets. Riders should consult the RTC website or app for real-time updates and alternatives.

Key Takeaways

  • Plan alternate routes early; Strip access vanishes by mid-afternoon Sunday.
  • Check RTC app for bus detours affecting multiple express lines.
  • I-15 ramps close progressively – avoid peak evening hours.

These closures highlight the Rock ‘n’ Roll series’ status as a premier night race, blending endurance with Vegas spectacle. Visitors and locals alike should map detours now to sidestep gridlock. What are your go-to alternate routes during big events? Share in the comments.
