Requested if there can be some other carve-outs to come back, Leavitt mentioned Trump is “open to hearing about additional exemptions.”

The one-month delay will expire in early April, when Trump has pledged to impose reciprocal tariffs on all different nations which have duties positioned on American items.

Trump on Tuesday imposed 25 p.c tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, in addition to a further 10 p.c tariff on Chinese language items. He cited frustration over the circulate of fentanyl into the USA, although consultants have famous comparatively little fentanyl enters the nation by the northern border.

The transfer sparked outcry from Canada, particularly, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling Trump’s actions “very dumb.”  Each Canada and Mexico vowed retaliatory measures, sparking fears of a wider commerce struggle.
