Fort Lauderdale – Rescue crews responded quickly Thursday morning after an elderly landscaper suffered a severe electric shock while working in a residential neighborhood. The man, identified by neighbors as Mr. Gabriel and believed to be in his 70s, was picking mangoes from a tree when the equipment he was using touched an overhead power line. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Details of the Morning Incident

The event took place along the 700 block of Northeast 15th Court. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrived to find the victim still at the scene and immediately began life-saving measures. Paramedics stabilized him on site before transporting him to the hospital for further treatment. Officials have not released additional details about the exact equipment involved or the voltage of the line.

Medical Response and Current Status

Hospital staff at Broward Health Medical Center are providing intensive care for the injuries sustained from the electrical contact. Such incidents often involve burns, cardiac complications, and other trauma that require specialized monitoring. No updates on his condition have been issued since his arrival, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the contact with the power line.

Neighborhood Context and Safety Considerations

Residents in the area described the victim as a familiar figure who often tended to local yards and trees. The incident highlights the risks that can arise when work equipment comes close to energized lines, even during routine tasks like fruit harvesting. Utility companies routinely advise maintaining safe distances from overhead wires, though specific recommendations for this case have not yet been detailed by investigators.
