Clark County holds city corridor to handle rise in homelessness in central Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Clark County elected officers held a city corridor assembly on Wednesday to handle what many have known as an escalating homeless disaster within the central Las Vegas valley.

“I don’t have anything against the homeless,” Matthew Kailimai stated. “I do have a problem when they start breaking our property.”

Kailimai, Property Supervisor of Tamaras Park Residences, is at his wit’s finish.

“We’ve spent tens, maybe easily hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Kailimai defined. “On damages over the years.”

Kailimai was one in all many who shared his issues at a city corridor at Flamingo Library Wednesday.

Clark County Commissioner for District E, Tick Segerblom, hosted the occasion.

“It’s surfacing the issue,” Commissioner Segerblom stated of homelessness in his district. “And now we just have to figure out how to address it.”

In January 2024, Clark County recorded 7,906 folks as homeless, with 4,202 recognized as unsheltered and three,704 in shelters.

This represents a 20 p.c enhance from the earlier 12 months, with lots of these shifting into neighborhoods and resulting in an increase in crime, in line with officers.

“It’s a societal problem, but we can’t allow neighbors to have their life destroyed,” Commissioner Segerblom informed 8 Information Now. “Because someone else is unhoused.”

“We just want to let people know that we’re serious,” Commissioner Segerblom stated. “And that police, Metro, people like that see the problem.”
