Las Vegas – Downtown’s bustling Fremont Street Experience appointed hospitality executive Cliff Atkinson as its new president and CEO, with the veteran set to start on February 17.[1]

Prior to that role, Atkinson guided the pre-opening efforts at Fontainebleau Las Vegas as president, assembling the leadership team for the multibillion-dollar resort. His tenure at MGM Resorts International included stints as senior vice president of corporate hotel strategy and president and chief operating officer of the Luxor Hotel and Casino.

Earlier in his career, he spent a decade with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group across San Francisco, New York, and Las Vegas locations. That period brought accolades such as Forbes Five-Star ratings, AAA Five-Diamond awards, and “Hotelier of the Year” honors.[1]

  • President, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas: Led operational turnaround post-renovation.

  • Senior VP Corporate Hotel Strategy and President/COO, Luxor (MGM Resorts).
  • Leadership roles at Mandarin Oriental: Earned top industry awards.

Board Champions Strategic Fit

Fremont Street Experience’s board selected Atkinson for his deep operational expertise and ability to integrate entertainment into guest experiences. Mark Brandenburg, the board chairman, praised the incoming leader’s qualifications.

“Cliff is a dynamic and respected leader whose expertise in hospitality, guest experience, and large-scale operational strategy will be instrumental as Fremont Street Experience continues to grow and evolve,” Brandenburg stated.[1]

The board also highlighted Atkinson’s success in uniting teams at iconic Las Vegas venues, positioning him to steer the district forward.

Heart of Downtown Entertainment

Fremont Street Experience stands as a cornerstone of historic downtown Las Vegas, drawing over 24 million visitors each year. The open-air promenade serves as a nexus for free live shows on three stages daily, alongside gaming, dining, and shopping options.

Visitors flock to attractions like the massive Canopy LED screen, which stretches 1,375 feet long and 90 feet wide, suspended 90 feet overhead. Nightly displays sync visuals with music from artists such as Katy Perry and Imagine Dragons.

SlotZilla adds adrenaline, offering an 850-foot zipline and 1,750-foot zoomline from a 12-story platform under the canopy. Pedestrians enjoy direct access to eight casino hotels and more than 70 restaurants.[1]
