Famed artist's work on show at UNLV museum

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegans can now see the works of a famed artist up shut at UNLV’s Marjorie Barrick Museum of Artwork.

Yoko Kondo Konopik’s artwork has been displayed worldwide, from Egypt to Indonesia, from Japan to Las Vegas.

“In my old age, it’s very special,” stated Konopik. “I cannot explain how appreciative I am.”

The museum shows 40 years of Konopik’s work, from her oldest portray, created in 1984, to her newest, produced in 2024. The Japanese-American painter began exploring portray within the Nineteen Seventies, when her husband was stationed for work in Paris. There, she taught herself artwork by way of books.

“I didn’t even know how to use the oil at that time,” she explained. “Everything was brand new for me.”

Konopik ultimately moved to the U.S. in her 30s. With expertise and time, Konopik stated she realized her fashion and rhythm.

She now takes pleasure in minimalistic kinds, aiming to make folks really feel “happy” once they view her artwork.

Her artwork will likely be on show on the college museum till Could 17. The exhibit is free and open Tuesday by way of Saturday, from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m.
