Houston – Forecasters expect rain chances to rise steadily through Friday, setting the stage for possible street flooding in locations that receive the heaviest totals. The same pattern carries a risk of additional storms across parts of the Mother’s Day weekend. Residents are watching the timing closely as the system moves in.

Why the Timing Matters

The increase in moisture arrives during a period when many commuters and families are already planning weekend travel. Peak rainfall could concentrate in brief windows, turning low-lying streets into temporary hazards before water has time to drain. Officials note that even moderate totals can create problems when they fall quickly over paved surfaces.

Where Flooding Risks Are Highest

Areas with poor drainage or recent construction remain most vulnerable. Totals that stack up fastest will determine which neighborhoods see water over curbs or in intersections. The forecast leaves room for localized differences, so conditions can shift from one side of the city to another within the same hour.

Weekend Extension Possible

Storms may not clear entirely after Friday. Scattered activity could return Saturday or Sunday in portions of the region, overlapping with Mother’s Day gatherings. The overall pattern suggests unsettled skies rather than a complete washout, yet the chance for brief heavy bursts remains on the table.

What matters now: Monitor local updates through the day Friday and into the weekend, especially if travel or outdoor plans are scheduled.

The coming days will test how well the area handles repeated rounds of moisture. Preparation now can reduce disruptions later.
