Las Vegas – A high school orchestra director landed in custody after police uncovered his inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student that involved kisses and physical contact during after-school car rides.

Classroom Connection Turns Romantic

Officers learned that Jordan Bushey, 36, began forming a closer bond with the girl after she endured a tough breakup.[1]

The student visited his classroom often during lunch and before or after school. She brought him small toys as gestures of appreciation. Their interactions soon shifted when they connected on TikTok to share music-related videos.[1]

Bushey sent her content complimenting her appearance, calling her pretty and beautiful in late January and early February. The student described how their exchanges escalated quickly from there.

After-School Rides Lead to Intimacy

Bushey started driving the girl home from Las Vegas High School multiple times, including four days in the week following Presidents’ Day weekend. During these drop-offs at her apartment complex parking lot, they kissed repeatedly.[1]

The first kiss lasted about a minute inside his car. On several occasions, Bushey grabbed her buttocks and breasts while they kissed, though he never touched her genitals, according to the student’s account. He had texted her after a prior hug that he felt the need to kiss her.

The girl kept the rides secret from her mother, who believed a friend provided transportation. Bushey later claimed he thought the mother had approved the arrangement.[1]

Family Tip Sparks Police Probe

The relationship came to light early Saturday when the girl’s older sister called authorities around 12:30 a.m. She had witnessed Bushey dropping off her sibling and learned of the kisses and groping.[1]

Detectives interviewed the student soon after. Although she deleted messages fearing discovery, police recovered communications showing affectionate exchanges. One message from Bushey called her too pretty to be a troll, followed by a heart-eyes emoji.[1]

The sister also spotted expressions of love in the chats and noted gifts of stuffed animals from Bushey to the girl.

Arrest Follows Teacher’s Admission

Police arrested Bushey on Monday in the staff parking lot at Las Vegas High School, where he served as orchestra director since 2021.[2]

During questioning, he acknowledged romantic feelings and confirmed the kisses and breast touching. Bushey described seeing a future with her at a more appropriate time but drew a line at further contact. He denied groping her buttocks or genitals, deeming such acts a greater violation.[1]

Authorities booked him on six felony counts of a school employee engaging in sexual conduct with a student and one felony count of contacting a minor for sex as an authority figure. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 26.[1]

Investigators Hunt for More Victims

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police urged potential additional victims to come forward, citing Bushey’s long involvement with youth through teaching.[3]

Detectives emphasized his role made others possible. Contact the Sexual Assault Detail at 702-828-3421 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 702-385-5555 with tips.

Key Takeaways

  • A seemingly innocent classroom rapport evolved into kisses and touching via social media and private rides.
  • Family vigilance exposed the misconduct, leading to swift arrest and message recovery.
  • Police suspect more cases; reporting remains crucial for student safety.

This case underscores the blurred lines that can endanger students under trusted educators. Schools must reinforce boundaries amid digital connections. What steps should districts take to prevent such breaches? Tell us in the comments.
