Nevada customers misplaced greater than $138M to fraud in 2024, FTC says

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada customers reported dropping greater than $138 million to fraud in 2024, a report from the Federal Commerce Fee mentioned.

The FTC mentioned in a launch that it obtained 24,331 fraud stories from customers in Nevada in 2024, which amounted to losses that totalled $138,538,256, with a median lack of $519.

The data comes from the FTC’s Client Sentinel Community, which analyzes stories from customers, regulation enforcement in any respect ranges, the Higher Enterprise Bureau, business members, and non-profit organizations.

Throughout all varieties of stories, not simply fraud, the FTC obtained a complete of 73,271 stories from Nevada customers.

“Reports from around the country about consumer protection issues—including identity theft, fraud, and other categories—are a key resource for FTC and other law enforcement agencies’ investigations that stop illegal activities and, when possible, provide refunds to consumers,” the discharge said.

The highest class of stories from Nevada customers was credit score bureaus and data furnished, adopted by identification theft, imposter scams, banks and lenders, and debt assortment.

Nationally, 2.6 million customers reported dropping $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024, which is a 25 % enhance from 2023 knowledge. Stories present customers misplaced extra money to funding scams, about $5.7 billion, than every other class in 2024.

The second highest class was imposter scams, with reported losses of $2.95 billion.
