Rosen, Republicans introduce plan to ban DeepSeek on authorities units

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Democratic Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen joined two Republicans on Thursday to introduce a invoice in Congress to ban the Chinese language synthetic intelligence platform DeepSeek from authorities units and networks.

The senators mentioned DeepSeek, which surged in recognition earlier this 12 months, poses a nationwide safety threat due to information sharing with the Chinese language authorities.

“As the artificial intelligence landscape continues to rapidly expand, the U.S. must take steps to ensure Americans’ data and government systems remain protected against platforms — like DeepSeek — that are linked to our adversaries,” Rosen mentioned in a press release “This bipartisan legislation takes proactive steps to ban DeepSeek on all U.S. government devices, helping to further safeguard sensitive government data from the Chinese Communist Party.”

Ohio Sen. Jon Husted and Nebraska Sen. Pete Ricketts joined Rosen, a former pc programmer, in introducing the proposal within the U.S. Senate. An identical proposal was launched earlier this 12 months within the U.S. Home.

In 2020, President Donald Trump requested the federal authorities ban TikTok, calling the social media app a nationwide safety threat. Within the aftermath, Congress and former President Joe Biden banned the app from authorities units.

In 2023, Nevada lawmakers banned TikTok from state worker units.
