Aberdeen, N.C., April 23 – Police patrolling local parks after closing hours discovered a controlled substance in a woman’s purse, leading to her arrest on felony charges. The incident unfolded when officers spotted a vehicle parked in a lot past the posted curfew. Authorities from the Aberdeen Police Department emphasized routine enforcement to ensure public safety in community spaces.

Routine Patrol Turns into Investigation

Officers conducted checks at parks after dusk as part of standard procedure. They noticed a car in the lot well beyond operating hours. A search of the area followed, and they soon found the driver nearby.

Gabriella Gironda, 32, of Southern Pines, received a reminder that the park had closed for the evening. The encounter remained calm until officers requested her identification. This simple request set the stage for what came next.

Search Reveals Controlled Substance

Gironda agreed to let officers look through her purse inside the vehicle to find her driver’s license. The search quickly uncovered loose narcotics among her belongings. Testing confirmed the substance as Adderall, classified as a Schedule II controlled substance under state law.

Possession of such drugs without a prescription carries serious penalties. Officers took Gironda into custody on the spot. The discovery highlighted the unexpected turns that can arise from compliance with basic requests during routine stops.

Court Appearance and Bond Set

Gironda faced a Moore County magistrate shortly after her arrest. The judge set a secured bond at $1,500. She awaited further proceedings while the case moved forward.

All defendants in such matters remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Aberdeen Police Department released details through official channels, underscoring their commitment to transparency.

Implications for Local Enforcement

Park curfew patrols serve to deter unauthorized activity and protect residents. This case illustrated how such checks can uncover violations beyond simple parking infractions. Authorities continue these operations to maintain order in shared public areas.

The episode serves as a reminder of enforcement priorities in the Sandhills region. Local residents can expect ongoing vigilance from police in similar settings.
