What's Driving You Loopy? – A viewer query in regards to the 215 beltway

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – A viewer query in regards to the 215 beltway.

Alyssa writes:

“Why is the 215 called an Interstate when it just stays in the valley? Are there plans to finish it so it’s a complete circle?”

There’s lots to unpack there, Alyssa.

First: 3-digit interstate freeways will be connectors between different highways – or bypass loops, like I-465 round indianapolis. They do not should go between states like 2 digit freeways. Wikipedia says there are greater than 300 3-digit interstates.

And this is one thing that people could not take note of and even care about: “I-215” is just the 12 miles or so between I-15 and the 95 / I-11 in Henderson.

West of I-15 it is “Clark County” 215 – *not* an interstate – all the best way up and round till the so-called “Northern Beltway” connects once more with I-15 close to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

As a result of Nellis Air Power base owns lots of land within the northeast valley, there aren’t any present plans to finish a 215 loop across the valley.

Alyssa has one other query in regards to the 215 that we’ll reply in our subsequent report.

Buckle up, drive fastidiously – and, please put down that telephone!
