McConnell votes towards Trump's protection choose, warns of 'geostrategic self-harm'

Former Senate Republican Chief Mitch McConnell (Ky.) on Tuesday voted towards Elbridge Colby, President Trump’s choose to function beneath secretary of coverage on the Protection Division, warning of “geostrategic self-harm” if the U.S. adopted by on Colby’s priorities.

Three Democrats, Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the rating member of the Senate Armed Companies Committee, and Sens. Mark Kelly (Ariz.) and Elissa Slotkin (Mich.) voted for Colby.  

McConnell warned that Colby’s affirmation “leaves open the door for the less-polished standard-bearers of restraint and retrenchment at the Pentagon to do irreparable damage to the system of alliances and partnerships that serve as force multipliers to U.S. leadership.”

“It encourages isolationist perversions of peace through strength to continue apace at the highest levels of administration policymaking,” he stated.
