LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Division doesn’t “enforce immigration violations,” the division posted on X in response to eight Information Now’s interview Monday with Sheriff Kevin McMahill.
In that report, McMahill stated his division is not going to partake in mass deportation “roundups” as President Donald Trump lays out his immigration insurance policies. Trump has promised to deport hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants, saying throughout his inaugural deal with Monday: “We will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came.”
Trump’s new self-described border czar beforehand stated he would use U.S. Immigration and Prospects Enforcement to “run the biggest deportation operation this country’s ever seen.”
“Although Nevada peace officers have the authority to assist in enforcing federal laws, LVMPD officers will not enforce immigration violations,” the coverage dated October 2019 and up to date in March 2023 stated. “Officers will not stop and question, detain, arrest, or place an immigration hold on any individuals on the ground they are an undocumented immigrant.
