What's Cool At College? – Highschool college students make and serve l-u-n-c-h to youthful champion spellers

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) -Highschool college students serving l-u-n-c-h to champion spellers.

It seems to be like a daily lunch at any nice restaurant in Las Vegas. However not solely are the friends particular – the perfect sixth, seventh, and eighth grade spellers within the Clark County College District – the meals are ready and served by highschool college students from the culinary program on the Southeast Profession and Technical Academy.

“It’s a little surreal serving elementary schoolers. We were there once. We’re really excited to meet these young people who are doing exciting things at the Spelling Bee.”

They positive are. Stephanie Stonex from the CCSD Pupil Actions Dept advised the scholars, their households, academics and principals:

“Over 39,000 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students were tested in September. These 6 students successfully made it through all four Spelling Bees.”

The lunch at SECTA this week was tasty home made hen tenders, fries and ranch dressing. It was about congratulating the Bee winners, and wishing them luck in subsequent month’s Nevada State Spelling Bee.

Culinary trainer Emily Giacona says the lunch could possibly be a recruiting alternative:

“It’s fun to bring the younger students in. For those kids to come in and see it, and maybe – possibly – end up in our program one day, would really be a full-circle moment.”

In addition to banquets, the scholars run their very own restaurant referred to as “The Whitney.” It is open to the general public from 10am to midday Tuesdays via Fridays.
