1. Kevin Spacey
Kevin Spacey saw his highly successful career come to an abrupt halt following numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. He was removed from the final season of the popular show “House of Cards” and was replaced in the film “All the Money in the World.” The speed of his professional erasure was almost without precedent in modern Hollywood. It all started after actor Anthony Rapp accused the “House of Cards” alum of making a sexual advance toward him in 1986, when he was 14. Spacey was immediately removed from the last season of the Netflix series.
Despite legal victories in some court cases, his standing in Hollywood remains severely tarnished. The actor was once considered one of the most respected performers of his generation with multiple awards to his name. He has struggled to find mainstream work in major productions since the initial reports surfaced. Spacey has two Oscars and no major studios clamoring for his services. The actor spent several years unemployed until 2024’s indie thriller “Peter Five Eight” got him back in front of a camera.
2. Armie Hammer
After roles in “The Social Network,” “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” and “Call Me by Your Name,” Armie Hammer appeared to be on the cusp of superstardom. After all, he was cast as a lead in 2022’s “Death on the Nile.” However, the publicity for that film was wrecked once the scandal about Hammer came out in 2021. The collapse was total and nearly instantaneous. Armie Hammer faced a rapid decline in his career after private messages involving disturbing themes were leaked online. These revelations led to him being dropped by his talent agency and losing several high-profile roles in upcoming films.
Armie Hammer was ousted from just about every film and show he was associated with. The series of actions came after sexual assault allegations and alleged messages where he called himself a cannibal surfaced online. He was fired from Billion Dollar Spy, Shotgun Wedding, and TV series The Offer. He was also dropped by his agency and publicist. Film companies, fans, agencies, and brands dropped the actor all at once. He’s pretty much vanished from the public eye since.
3. Ezra Miller
All these allegations and the arrest led Warner Bros. and DC executives to rethink their association with the actor. Miller had been the face of The Flash, and according to a source, the unanimity in the room was to hit pause on any future projects involving him. This would include any possible appearances in the DC Extended Universe as well. The spiral was public, prolonged, and deeply damaging to a career that had genuine momentum behind it.
Ezra Miller’s off-screen behavior repeatedly overshadowed roles that once promised a breakout legacy. There have been arrests and allegations involving assault, harassment, burglary, and claims of inappropriate behavior toward minors. There probably isn’t an actor who has had as many legal run-ins in such a short amount of time as Ezra Miller. The Flash ultimately released in 2023 and flopped at the box office, making a clean break even easier for the studio.
4. Mel Gibson
In 2006, Mel Gibson found himself at the center of a scandal over his offensive anti-Semitic remarks made during an arrest for driving under the influence. This event turned him into a persona non grata in Hollywood. For an actor who had directed and starred in some of the most commercially successful films of his era, the fall was steep. From 2006 to 2010, he got only one role in the movie “Edge of Darkness.” The situation worsened in 2010 when the actor became involved in a high-profile scandal for threatening his former partner. This forced the talent agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment to terminate his contract, effectively closing the door to the industry.
The actor notoriously unleashed a flurry of anti-Semitic remarks during a 2006 DUI arrest, rendering him persona non grata in Hollywood. Gibson eventually found a path back through directing, but the years between 2006 and his gradual rehabilitation represented one of the most dramatic A-list collapses Hollywood had ever seen.
5. Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen was once one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but since 2014, his career has been in serious trouble after his work in the sitcom Anger Management. The actor even claimed that he was blacklisted by Hollywood. Before that, Sheen had been the highest-paid actor on television, earning a reported roughly one million dollars per episode on “Two and a Half Men.” Many believe his blacklisting may be due to his erratic behavior, particularly after he was fired from the TV series Two and a Half Men in 2011.
Sheen asked the court to reduce the alimony he paid to his ex-wives, noting in documents that he could not find a stable job because he was blacklisted in many areas of the entertainment industry. 6. Cuba Gooding Jr.
Breaking out in “Boyz n the Hood” and “Jerry Maguire,” it initially seemed Gooding Jr.’s rising star would never die. In 2016, he even snagged an Emmy nomination for his work in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” Then Gooding Jr. got charged with groping a woman at a bar. The charges came swiftly, and the professional fallout followed just as fast. His Academy Award win for “Jerry Maguire” felt like a different lifetime overnight.
Since 2020, thirty women came forward with their stories, with one even filing a lawsuit accusing Gooding Jr. of assault. As recently as 2024, Gooding Jr. was accused of groping and fondling music producer Rodney Jones. 7. Shia LaBeouf
LaBeouf was poised to become the next big movie star after career-making roles in the Transformers franchise and a co-starring role opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. For a stretch in the late 2000s, he was genuinely one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood. Despite his obvious talent, LaBeouf was unable to overcome his internal problems. 9. Rachel Zegler
The year’s biggest box-office bomb, “Snow White,” which reportedly lost upward of $200 million, didn’t fail because it paid a massive sum to a single actor. From the get-go, “Snow White” was mired in controversy. Zegler had been celebrated after her debut in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” which earned her a Golden Globe. The leap to lead a Disney live-action remake was supposed to cement her as a major star. The year’s biggest box-office bomb, “Snow White,” didn’t fail for just one reason. From the get-go, the production was mired in controversy.
