A pair of full moons on May 1 and 31 mark the month as a rare blue moon period, offering a chance for reflection amid the year’s earlier upheavals. Astrologers note that this configuration arrives after intense cosmic activity, including a stellium in Aries and Uranus’s entry into Gemini for the first time since 1949. With the Sun in Taurus until May 20, May provides a grounding influence before Gemini’s dynamic energy takes hold.

Recovery from 2026’s Turbulent Start

The first four months of 2026 delivered relentless cosmic pressure. February’s conjunction of Saturn and Neptune set a tone of disillusionment, followed by the Fire Horse’s influence, Mercury retrograde, March eclipses, and April’s seven-planet cluster in Aries. Uranus then shifted into Gemini, ushering in an era of rapid innovation set to continue through 2033.

This backdrop explains why May feels like a collective sigh of relief. The earthy Taurus Sun dominates the early weeks, encouraging presence over reaction. Residents of this steady sign prioritize tangible progress, creating space to process the prior chaos.

Full Moons and Seasonal Shifts

May opens with a Scorpio full moon on the 1st, aligning with Beltane’s ancient fire rituals for purification. This intense lunar event highlights hidden emotions and transformative desires. The month closes with a Sagittarius full moon on the 31st, emphasizing truth and expansive vision.

These bookend full moons define May as a blue moon month, amplifying emotional peaks. Uranus’s presence in Gemini adds unpredictability, particularly after May 20 when the Sun joins it there. Technology, communication, and community structures face accelerated change as air sign influences dominate.

Pluto’s Retrograde and Midmonth Reset

On May 6, Pluto stationed retrograde in Aquarius, initiating a five-month review until October 15. This dwarf planet’s backward motion exposes shadows in group dynamics, networks, and alliances. Early signs appeared in high-profile tech disputes, signaling deeper questions about collective progress.

The Taurus new moon on May 16 offers counterbalance. This supermoon invites seeding long-term goals in finance, art, or routines. Taurus demands alignment with core values for enduring results, with fruition possible by the October Taurus full moon.

Planetary Ingresses Reshape the Pace

Several planets shift signs midmonth, altering the cosmic rhythm. Mercury enters Taurus on May 2, focusing on resources until the 17th, then speeds into Gemini. Mars arrives in Taurus on the 18th, steadying action through June 28, while Venus settles into Cancer the same day for nurturing vibes until June 13.

The Sun’s Gemini ingress on May 20 electrifies the final stretch. Paired with Uranus, it accelerates ideas and revelations. Expect surprises in information flow and local connections, culminating at the Sagittarius full moon.
