Las Vegas – A California visitor named Donald experienced extraordinary fortune at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa on Monday, March 30. He drew a seven-card straight flush in pai gow poker, claiming a total payout of $101,701.[1][2] The win combined a progressive jackpot of $91,701 with a $10,000 Fortune Bonus, turning an ordinary gaming session into a life-changing moment. Such rare hands highlight the unpredictable thrill that draws players to Nevada’s casinos.
Rare Hand Seals Monumental Victory
Donald secured his jackpot through a precisely aligned set of cards. The winning combination featured an eight through ace of spades, bolstered by the joker substituting for the nine of spades.[1] In pai gow poker, the joker serves as an ace or completes a straight or flush, making this seven-card straight flush particularly potent.
Casino representatives confirmed the details shortly after the event. The progressive portion alone exceeded $91,000, with the bonus pushing the total past $100,000. South Point, a popular off-Strip destination, celebrated the win as a testament to its vibrant table games scene. Players often praise the venue for its competitive progressives and relaxed atmosphere compared to busier Strip properties.
South Point Stands Out Off the Strip
The South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa has long attracted locals and tourists seeking value beyond the neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip. Located south of the main action, it offers extensive gaming options, including a robust poker room with progressive jackpots. Donald’s win underscores the venue’s reputation for delivering substantial payouts on table games.

Off-Strip casinos like South Point provide lower house edges on certain games and higher progressive pools due to steady play from regulars. This contrasts with the high-volume, tourist-driven Strip resorts. The facility also features equestrian events and bowling, broadening its appeal. Monday’s jackpot added to its legacy of big moments.
Pai Gow Poker Draws Strategy-Minded Players
Pai gow poker blends elements of traditional poker with a house dealer, requiring players to split seven cards into two hands. Success demands both luck and tactical decisions on hand arrangement. Donald’s straight flush represented the pinnacle of possible outcomes, far rarer than standard poker royals.
The game’s popularity stems from its low house edge, often under 3 percent with optimal play. Progressives like South Point’s amplify stakes, where a qualifying hand triggers escalating jackpots. Fortune Bonuses further reward strong holdings. Visitors from California frequently seek these tables for extended sessions blending skill and chance.
