Supporters, family members, and fellow leaders filled the room, creating an atmosphere of shared accomplishment.

Honorees Recognized for Diverse Impacts

Five trailblazers received honors in distinct categories, each embodying dedication to progress. Their stories spanned business innovation, public service, education, emerging leadership, and spiritual guidance.

• A’Esha Goins earned the Business and Economic Advancement Award for her entrepreneurial drive as president of Black Joy Consulting. She guides professionals through coaching and community support.[2]
• Dwayne Henderson, a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer since 2006, took home the Community Activism and Politics Award. His efforts focus on bridging law enforcement with neighborhood initiatives.[1]

Gratitude Echoes Through Personal Remarks

Honorees expressed deep humility during acceptance speeches. They credited faith, family, and mentors for their paths forward. Angel Lash noted the weight of her award, stating she had “big shoes to fill” following the legacy of its namesake, the late Tyrone Thompson.[1]

Henderson highlighted his long service in policing, underscoring community engagement as central to his role. The moments drew emotional responses from the crowd, reinforcing bonds across the valley. Such reflections underscored the personal sacrifices behind public service.

Upholding a Decade-Plus Tradition

The awards program, now in its twelfth year, continues a city commitment to Black History Month observances spanning 47 years. Past recipients include figures from business, education, and activism, building a roster of influencers. Nominations for 2027 will open in September, inviting public input on future honorees.

This event aligns with broader efforts, such as plaques at Historic Westside Legacy Park honoring earlier pioneers. It serves as a platform to amplify ongoing contributions amid evolving challenges.
