LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A proposal within the Nevada Legislature would create a searchable database to see if somebody has a number of home violence-related convictions to their title.
Meeting Invoice 162 from Republican Assem. Toby Turek is modeled after the same registry in Texas.
The invoice, Alessandra’s Legislation, is called after Alessandra Barlas who was murdered in California at age 27.
Michelle Afshar, Barlas’ greatest buddy and member of the Alessandra Basis, spoke on behalf of the invoice throughout a committee listening to Friday.
“By the time we learned of his past criminal behavior, Alessandra was already gone,” Afshar stated. “I can’t say with certainty that an online conviction database or record portal would have prevented Alessandra’s murder, but I do know it would have given us and her circle of friends vital knowledge.”
Folks within the registry would have at the very least two prior misdemeanor convictions over seven years.
