That leg never happened. In January 2018 Diamond announced that he was retiring from touring and performing, in light of a recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. He cancelled the third leg of his 50th Anniversary tour, scheduled for Australia and New Zealand in March, on his doctors’ advice, telling fans in a statement that it was with “great reluctance and disappointment” that he was stepping away from the stage he had commanded for decades.
Peter Frampton’s farewell tour that was supposed to be a proper goodbye
Peter Frampton did something unusual among artists on this list: he announced his retirement before his final tour rather than during it, giving himself the chance to actually say goodbye on his own terms. In February 2019, after being diagnosed with inclusion body myositis almost four years earlier, he revealed the diagnosis publicly and confirmed a farewell run built around it.
The tour, dubbed Peter Frampton Finale – the Farewell Tour, played between June and October 2019, hitting the venues that had defined his career. David Cassidy’s late career took a difficult turn in 2017, when onstage lapses during live shows made it clear that something beyond ordinary nerves was affecting his performances. He publicly attributed the episodes to early dementia, a revelation that reframed months of erratic shows for fans and critics who had noticed him struggling with lyrics and stage presence.
He announced that he was stepping away from touring for good, canceling the remaining dates on his schedule rather than risk more public struggles on stage.
