President Trump on Friday referred to as for a assessment of federal funding to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and for a halt on spending to teams that “undermine the national interest.”

“The United States Government has provided significant taxpayer dollars to [NGOs], many of which are engaged in actions that actively undermine the security, prosperity, and safety of the American people.  It is the policy of my Administration to stop funding NGOs that undermine the national interest,” a Friday memo from the White Home reads.

The memo directs heads of government departments and companies to assessment “all funding” they supply to NGOs, and requires future funding selections to “align” with “the interests of the United States and with the goals and properties of my Administration.”

The transfer comes after the Trump administration put a freeze on funding for the USA Company for Worldwide Improvement (USAID) and reportedly slashed its staff this week as a part of the president’s crackdown on authorities spending and overhaul of U.S. overseas help.

The broad announcement didn’t title particular NGOs. In accordance with the State Division, there are some 1.5 million such advocacy and repair teams working in the USA, specializing in social and financial points together with elections, healthcare and ladies’s rights, amongst many others.
