Political cartoonists delivered sharp commentary this week on figures like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, capturing public skepticism through biting humor.[1]

A Solitary Cheer for the Big Apple’s Leader

One cartoon quickly drew attention for its portrayal of Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist who assumed the mayor’s office following the November 2025 election.[2] Titled to suggest his support remains thin, the illustration features the politician with a single admirer in a vast, empty New York City setting. Artist Tom Stiglich of Creators Syndicate crafted the piece, emphasizing isolation amid urban bustle.[3]

Review-Journal readers encountered this work alongside other timely drawings. The image resonated in conservative circles, reflecting ongoing debates over Mamdani’s progressive policies and their reception in the diverse metropolis.[4] Critics have pointed to his background as a state assemblyman and son of a noted scholar, questioning his broad appeal.[2]

Super Bowl Jabs and Media Critiques Dominate the Frame

Cartoonists expanded beyond city hall to national flashpoints. A recent entry poked fun at next year’s Super Bowl preparations, highlighting unexpected drawbacks in the high-stakes event.[3] Tom Stiglich again contributed, using exaggeration to underscore logistical or cultural tensions.

Dave Whamond’s work targeted mainstream media coverage of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, suggesting bias through clever visual cues.[5] These pieces appeared in the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Drawing Board section, a staple for syndicated satire.[6]
