James City County, Va. – Authorities took 38-year-old Eric Fenton into custody after he turned himself in late Monday evening, closing the book on a shooting investigation that began over two weeks earlier.[1][2]

Parking Lot Altercation Turns Violent

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7:19 p.m. on February 17 in the 3900 block of Meadow Grove Way.[3] The call stemmed from an altercation at the Longhill Grove apartments off Centerville Road.[4]

Arriving deputies found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed the victim to Riverside Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.[5] Investigators quickly determined the shooting arose from a dispute that escalated rapidly in the parking lot. No other injuries occurred during the incident.

Police Issue Warrants for Armed Suspect

James City County Police moved swiftly to identify the perpetrator. Within days, they obtained arrest warrants for Fenton, a resident of the 200 block of Barlow Road in Williamsburg.[6] Authorities described him as armed and dangerous, urging the public to come forward with tips.[7]

The department released Fenton’s photo and details to heighten awareness. Patrols increased in the area as detectives pieced together evidence from witnesses and surveillance. The suspect remained at large for nearly three weeks, prompting public alerts across local media.[8]

Surrender Ends the Search

Fenton walked into the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on March 9, voluntarily submitting to arrest.[9] Police confirmed his surrender the following day, noting it resolved the active manhunt. Deputies processed him without incident.

Officials expressed relief at the peaceful resolution. The jail holds Fenton pending further court proceedings. Investigators continue to review evidence, though no additional suspects have emerged.

These accusations reflect the severity of the injuries and Fenton’s prior record. Court dates remain pending as the case advances through the system. The victim’s current condition has not been publicly updated since his hospitalization.
